Hold Back This Day
Published in Paperback by Writers Club Press (November, 2001)
Author: Ward Kendall
Average review score:

A Fast Paced Thriller
This book is outstanding! Ward Kendall has given us a true masterpiece. This book shows the world's future when political correctness is taken to silly and deadly extremes.

Impossible to put down
Hold Back This Day is suprisingly well written science fiction -- the characters actually act how real people in such a situation would act. This is unlike the typical science fiction story where the characters are often flat and/or unbelievable. Ward Kendall has a good insight into human nature, and it is a welcome change.

He describes a future world where the politically correct ideas of today have reached their logical conclusion. He pulls no punches as he speaks out against the sacred cows of the liberal left - economic equality, racial equality, and social equality. Rarely do I find a book which makes me think like this one did, and a week later I am still thinking about it. You will definitely look at the world differently after reading this one.

A devasting, wonderful book. YOU need to read this - now.
Insanity.

Insanity exists when there is an inability to differentiate between that which is beneficial to survival, and that which is detrimental.

Thus an insane man may jump from a tall building, convinced that he can fly. But believing a thing to be real doesn't make it so. The realities of the physical universe must apply, and so the man plunges to his death.

Decadence.

Decadence is a form of collective insanity. Thus a society or race passing through a cycle of decadence will adopt customs, values, taboos and laws that they believe to be beneficial to their survival. But these values will in reality contain the seeds of their own destruction.

This book deals with societal and racial insanity. It shows us the world that must result if today's values of decadence continue to be applied. This means the 'glory' of an equality-obsessed state, a state that controls the world in the internationalist's dream of one world government. The nature of Man dictates that if such an eventuality comes to pass the results are precisely predictable ' totalitarianism, mass indoctrination and enforced racial extinction. Extinction not just for the white race, but for every race, everywhere. All to gain the 'prize' of a single homogenised mass of humanity. This is the dream of the internationalist integrationists of today, obsessed with their unquestioning beliefs and unable to conceive of the terrifying result of their dreams made real.

This book shows the result.

But this novel isn't about despair ' it is about hope, and the promise of the future. The reader isn't left depressed. He is left uplifted in spirit, happy and joyous at the conclusion. Heed the warning that is contained in this novel. Feel the burning loss of all that you hold dear. But also experience the excitement of a great adventure. You won't be able to put this book down. You will cheer on the main character, a good man struggling to find the path of virtue and straining to win the ultimate prize. And you will think about the story and the warning it contains long after the book is read.

You receive your education in liberal doctrine every day through the mass media. Why not take a look at the results that await your children from the successful application of liberal policies? Just one novel will provide more enlightenment than years of watching and reading 'approved' media products.

And if you are a politically correct liberal? Consider this novel a challenge. Exercise an open mind, and expose yourself to a different world view. Look into the future that you believe to be so desirable, and wonder. You really will want to hold back this day.

I urge anyone reading these comments - whites and non-whites, lovers of diversity and lovers of their own peoples' customs, liberals and non-liberals - to read this book. All that you are and all that you dream ' no matter how diverse your views ' will be destroyed by the evils of applied liberal doctrine.

Mankind has a golden future. Don't let it end in darkness and despair. Read this book and you will know how important it is to cast your vote for the right candidate, the right party ' and to spread the word of truth amongst everyone in your life.

It's not too late to save us all from a terrible fate.

You need to read this book!

Oh, Doug! a Dragonfly's Day

My son adores this book
Doug the Dragonfly helped to tell my son something that I couldn`t get across to him. He is four years old but in 1st grade. The other chilren beat him up just about everyday during recess. I tried to explain to him that he is vonerable because he is so young. He is a bright child but was unable to get the point I was trying to make. Then one of my freinds from Springfield, Mo sent this book to me. He simply told me to give my son the book and let him read it by himself. My son, to my suprise, came out of his room and said to me, "dad, I like who I am". I was absolutly astounished. Three weeks later he invited one of the bullies to spend the night at our house, and they have been best friends ever since. Of all the childrens books my child owns this is the only one that has had such a large impact on his self-esteem. Ann Leach seems to understand a childs thought processes, and Russell Aldredge has the visual impact to follow.

This Book Has Wise Child Content
I'm pretty no-nonsense when it comes to books for my children....The message is precisely what they need to be reminded of at ages 4 and 7. I'm especially fond of the colorful cover she chose to use.

Doug is precious!
Doug is typical of what a lot of children are like these days-always thinking that life is better somewhere, or as someone, else. In the end, Doug realizes a valuable life lesson-we must all make the best of our own gifts and talents.

One Day Too Long
Published in Paperback by Columbia University Press (15 June, 2000)
Author: Timothy N. Castle
Average review score:

I WAS THERE.
As one of the pilots of Jolly Green 67 I simply want to thank Dr. Castle for his comprehensive and historical accurate account of the events at Lima Site 85. This is a story that begged to be told; Dr. Castle pulls no punches, providing a riveting and revealing account. His work was a key factor in the eventual recognition of the heroic efforts of Sgt. Etchberger at the Enlisted Hertiage Hall, Maxwell AFB Annex (formally Gunter AFS), Montgomery AL. A great read.

An American tragedy in Laos.
Congratulations to Dr. Castle for this fine book. A meticulously researched historical work of the finest order that reads like a Tom Clancy action novel. A bombshell that exposes one of the most egregious and hitherto publicly undisclosed tragedies of the Vietnam War. In March 1968 an NVA sapper team avoided detection and attacked a top-secret radar bombing facility (code name Jolly Green) which was manned by sixteen "civilianized" Air Force technicians. The site, LS 85, was located on a mountain top in Laos less than twenty-five miles from the North Vietnam border. The attack caught the technicians off guard and resulted in the loss of the site to the communist forces. Two of those dedicated volunteers manning the site were confirmed killed, five were rescued alive (one died on the evacuation flight) and the remaining nine have never been accounted for and their status remains unknown. This incident holds the distinction of being the largest single loss of Air Force ground personnel during the entire Vietnam War. Why did the Air Force continue to operate this site in the face of considerable evidence the site would soon fall under bombardment and attack by large NVA forces gathering in the area? Was it incompetence or was the site considered so essential to the North Vietnam bombing effort that the loss of the men was an acceptable risk? Dr. Castle looks at these questions in detail. One Day Too Long chronicles the history of Site 85 from its initial concept of operations through the tragic consequence of this miscalculation. But the story does not stop there. It also relates the stoic efforts by one widow to find answers to questions about her husbands death at this site the government was unwilling to provide. This book should be mandatory reading for all future military leaders.

An exposure of a shameful episode in US history.
I have a very personal reaction to "One Day Too Long" in that Mel and Ann Holland were our military sponsors when my family and I were first assigned to an AC&W squadron in southern Spain in early 1961, and I worked with Mel until he rotated to the States. It is embarrassing and shameful to learn how both the military and civilian authorities were willing to sacrifice those men in order to cover up their own mistakes, but I suppose if ALL the truth were known about SE Asia operations, we would not be able to stand it. Dr. Castle has perfomed an invaluable service for democracy. EVERYBODY should read this book! (Ann, we'd love to hear from you!)

Homestead

Great book
This was the first book of Jane's that I read. It amazed me how much she did and survived to tell about it, sometimes in a funny way. It is a great way to get to know Jane personally.

My favorite
This was my favorite of Jane's many books. Jane's tale held me spellbound from beginning to end. I could hardly believe how much she and her husband lived through in order to establish a home in a very difficult environment. I felt like I lived the entire ordeal with them. Very worthwhile reading.

Homestead by Jane Kirkpatrick
This is truly a "can't put it down" book. Jane's own story is deeply inspiring to anyone facing his or her own challenges. She writes with great humor and a deep faith in the power of the Almighty. Throughout the whole book the reader finds herself laughing and crying with Jane and cheering her on. Her descriptions of events are so vivid that the reader feels like it is taking place right here, right now. Jane has captured the spirit of the pioneer woman that she could have been if she had lived 100 years earlier.

best cookbook around!
I received this book as a gift. It is so beautiful that I browsed through it a couple of times before I actually picked it up to find something to cook!
Of the recipes I tested and tasted: Sesame Noodles (I made it without the chicken, and it was a yummy side dish - no leftovers there!!), Lemon Bundt Cake (nice, but not "wow"), Chocolate Pecan Pie (now here's a great find - for all those pecan pie lovers out there, who think the traditional recipe is a drop too rich and sweet, here's one for you!! The chocolate adds the right touch to balance the sweetness in this recipe! Still is great with a cup of milk, but it won't leave you nauseous like regular pecan pie!), and the Challah Napkin Rings came out beautiful and tasty!
I'm planning my Shavuos menu now - first on the list are the Baby Blintzes, of course! (One look at the picture and I knew I have to make it!)

The Perfect Gift
When looking for a gift for my jewish friend, I came across this cookbook with it's eyecatching pictures, along with it's clear explanation of the holidays and their meanings. This convinced me that this was the perfect gift for her.

The look of surprise and delight on my friends face when I gave it to her confirmed what I had thought when I first spotted it. I know she will enjoy it for years to come.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is in need of a gift for a friend, family member or anyone who likes to cook.

The ultimate Matzoh Ball
The search for the best Matzoh Ball soup has ended. That along with some of the recipes in Susie's book helped make our Passover dinner the most tasteful and enjoyable ever. The pictures and the easy recipes made the cooking of it a family affair. It will even encourage me to visit Mom more often as she experiments further with recipes in the book.

Mist on the Mountain

Mist on the Mountain Review
The book is excellent. It brings back memories of the old movie Thunder Road. It is an exceptional account of a family that is in the moonshine business. I started reading and couldn't put it down. It's one of the few books I wouldn't mind my children reading so that they would have a better understanding of a former way of life.

Nothing short of excellent
This is one of those rare books that the more you read the more you want to read. Ms. Day has done an excellent job in portraying life in the southern mountains. The characters become real to life and the theme holds your interest. I recommend this as a must read especially in helping one to understanding the southern rural lifestyle.

From a small lakeside town in Georgia
Kathleen Day has transformed the presence of bootlegging into real terms that capture not only the factual history, but the impact such a living has on family and family values. She succeeds in taking the reader through very intimate and detailed images of life in a small mountain town and lifes changes, through a time many of us cannot begin to understand! There is an interest for readers young and old. The character set is quite diverse and interesting to follow. The story has numerous angles that are nicely branched together. Scores of unpredictable events keep this one moving quickly. Kudos to the author -- this was a one-sitting read on New Year's Day.

Cute cats, cute calendar
My mother loves getting her cat calendar each year. This calendar has never failed to bring a smile to her face. Very well packaged and put together...

I LOVE CATS
This calendar is the best and I don't just mean because it has cats, I mean page - a - day makes the absolute best calendars in the world. Any idea or thing that you love, page-a-day has that calendar. I happen to love cats so this is the best calendar for me. I have a standing order with anyone who knows me that if you want to get on my good side, just give me this calendar for Christmas and I'll love you forever. The problem, everyone thinks someone else is getting it for me and then I don't get it. I really don't understand why I never get the calendar, it wouldn't bother me if I got two or three of these calendars. I could have one at home, work, car anywhere. Oh well, maybe next year I'll get one as a gift.

Original 365 Cats Page-A-Day Calendar
This is the most uplifting and cute calendar ever! My wife got one years and years ago and we can't go a year without it now. It's an absolute must for every cat lover! I want to hurry through the day so I can see what the next day's picture is about. It's a jewel in the rough of everyday life!

Fantastic Series
The Red River of the North series of books by Lauraine Snelling are fabulous books. If you have any Scandinavian heritage...or even if you don't...you will like these books. I have gained insight into how many of my relatives came to America through Ellis Island and settled in the Mid West states. I highly recommend!

encouraging
Lauraine Snelling is such a wonderful writer. You can relate to the character's behaviors and beliefs. She does a wonderful job getting you to feel like you are there in the book.

This is just a wonderful, clean, refreshing book/series. She gets so many emotions zinging through you as you are reading.

A touching read
Ingeborg and Kaaren get help from another Bjorklund, Haakan, who helps make the farm life easier for Ingeborg although she has to come to grips with many issues. All the characters are easy to like and make the hard work of our ancestors clear. Through Ingeborg's problems with winters in the soddy, the books brings the hardships of those settlers to fruit. Andrew and Thorliff are such fun to read about! Lauraine Snelling has a truly wonderful and memorable work in this family's story.

One Day, All Children...: The Unlikely Triumph of Teach For America and What I Learned Along the Way
Published in Hardcover by PublicAffairs (10 April, 2001)
Author: Wendy Kopp
Average review score:

An inspirational short read
In less than 200 pages, Ms. Kopp details every step she took in establishing Teach for America, the national teaching corps for recent college graduates. Chapters 1-9 are a primer for fundraising techniques, non-profit organizational set-up and strong management skills. But, Chapter 10, the most interesting by far, is a lengthy description on what makes good educators. You may be inspired enough to join in the efforts in ensuring excellent education for all children in this great nation of ours.

An Idea Acted Upon....
One person, and idea, and a difference. Wendy Kopp detailed the relentless cycle of securing grant money to meet payroll to keep the organization afloat. Often the life of this organization was within days of sinking, but alas, the golden check was cleared. She is a very gifted networker, who managed a large organization without management experience until she handed over the operational reigns to those who knew what was going on. This account is from the perspective of the person who created the organization and ran it, so this should be taken into account. Their was heavy emphasis on recruiting graduates from Ivy League universities, which is good, because the students they would be teaching almost never have access to teachers with Ivy League educations and exposure. Those not in the Ivy Leagues seemed to not have a shot, although they could have made a significant impact. The reason why Teach For America exists in the first place in my opinion, is because the monopolistic public school system is an outright systematic, bureaucratic disaster today. TFA is a needed action, but also puts a band-aid on a bullet wound that is bleeding like a sieve. Recommended to young, new teachers, that are still idealistic and haven't become cynical, burned out, or moribund yet because of politics, administrators, and idiotic school policies.

Success against the odds!
Read the book in one day! Even though you know the outcome, it has the pull of a fiction novel as you read through the ups and downs of building TFA.

Kopp shows that vision, persistence and optimism can beat the odds when it comes to a good idea. She also demonstrates that all good ideas hit big speed bumps and resiliency is key with some insightful stories.

In addition there is a fairly specific prescription for what makes for a good teacher at the end of the book. This isn't philosophical musings--this is exeperiential lessons being laid out by Kopp.

If you feel like being uplifted and gaining some knowledge on what makes a good teacher operate--read this book.
